Fact 1: In 2006, an Australian man tried to sell New Zealand on Ebay for $0.01 cents! The price rose to a respectable $3000 before Ebay got wind of it and shut the auction down.


Fact 2. In Australia, sheep outnumber people 2.5 to 1

Fact 3: The Dingo Fence runs over 5,530km through Queensland and South Australia. It is the longest fence in the world and is 3 times the length of the Great Wall of China!


Fact 4. The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest Ecosystem and is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World! With more than 1,500 species of fish – incredibly, 10% of the world’s fish species inhabit the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkeling and diving amongst the colourful fish and turtles that make the Great Barrier Reef their home, is sure to be a highlight of any trip to Australia.

Fact 5. 90% of Australians live on the coast! The large deserts of central Australia mean that the vast majority of the population lives on the shores of this enormous country.

Fact 6: 80% of animals in Australia are unique to Australia! From cuddly marsupials to creepy crawly things, there are so many opportunities to experience the wildlife of the country, from zoos and parks to spotting these unique creatures in the wild.

Fact 7: Aboriginal culture is the oldest on Earth and it’s estimated that the continent’s original inhabitants, the aboriginal people, have been in Australia for 40,000-60,000 years.

Fact 8: Australia is home to over 10,000 beaches – which means it would take nearly 30 years to visit a different one every day!

Fact 9: The Australian Alps regularly receive more snow than Switzerland!

Fact 10: Did you know Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world? With air as clean as Antarctica, one-third of the island is a national park making it a walker’s paradise with trails and walkways winding over the whole island. Another interesting fact is that Tassie has water so pure it produces the only bottled rainwater approved by health departments around the world.
